The Mountain Views School District (MVSD) offers elementary school choice for parents and guardians of students entering grades K-6 that reside within the district. There are five elementary schools in the district. The choice of the school venue is guided by the needs of students, parents, and the district, and will adhere to the MVSD process and guidelines.

Choice will be limited by transportation feasibility and classroom space availability. Approval is not guaranteed and will be based on availability.

Do you need to submit an application?

Who should apply:

  • An enrolled resident Prekindergarten student who wants to attend kindergarten in a school OTHER THAN the elementary school located in the town in which they live. Attending one school’s PreK program does not automatically qualify the student for that school’s kindergarten if you are not a resident in that town.

  • All new in-district students that wish to enroll in a MVSU elementary school OTHER THAN the elementary school located in or designated for their town. (i.e. Woodstock Elementary is considered the “home” school for grade K-4 students residing in Pomfret or Bridgewater- no school choice application is needed.)

  • In-district Grade 1-6 students who wish to change from the MVSU school they are currently enrolled in to a different MVSU elementary school.

Who should not apply:

  • In-district residents who plan to attend the elementary school located in their town or designated for their town.

  • New Plymouth residents.

  • New Pittsfield residents.

  • If your student wants to stay at their current elementary school, no action is needed. Your currently enrolled K through grade 6 child will automatically stay enrolled at their current MVSD school through the highest grade offered.

  • If your student has completed the highest grade offered at their current MVSD school and is matriculating into their next MVSD school, no action is needed (e.g. Killington Elementary to the Woodstock Union Middle School).

  • If at least one parent does not physically reside within the school district, your student is not eligible.

Applying

Applying for school choice is a commitment from both the student and the parents. Once a parent has submitted the choice application and the student has been approved for entrance to the choice school, the student is expected to attend and complete their elementary education to the highest grade offered in that choice school.

A spot is not guaranteed in the school of origin should a student wish to return. A parent must re-apply to the school of origin through the school choice process outlined above if they wish to return.
